FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

One aspect of Kundalini Yoga that I love is how all are invited to join. Regardless of shape, gender and ability, everyone can benefit greatly from Kundalini Yoga. All are truly welcome.

Kundalini Yoga follows kriyas (specific order of physical and mental actions) that are designed to balance and aide our body’s internal systems. For example, Balancing our hormones through strengthening our pituitary gland, Cleansing our bodies of stuck emotions from life's experiences, and Calming our nervous systems to deactivate the our ever-strung-out flight, fight, or freeze responses.

Here are some Q&A’s I believe will be helpful if you are just learning about Kundalini Yoga:

Q: Is Kundalini yoga the same as traditional yoga we see in the West?

A: Kundalini Yoga shares some similarities with the traditional (hatha) yoga we see commonly in the West. But, a significant difference is how Kundalini Yoga targets key areas through movement, breathwork, healing vibrations through mantras/music and deep relaxation followed with meditation. If one is only wanting to exercise the physical body through gentle stretching and strength training then Hatha yoga is a great option. However, I recommend Kundalini Yoga for those looking to develop a spiritual practice that strengthens the mind, restores the body, and renews your spirit.

Q: Do I have to wear white to a Kundalini Yoga class?

A: No, wearing white is not necessary when going to participate in this class, however you may notice the instructor may be in full white or neutral tones. The color white allows all the energy of all colors to flow. It's said that all colors are used in support to enhance our electromagnetic field or our aura. By wearing white we expand our aura which protects us from negative energy and enhances our ability to shine positivity into the universe.  So, it's not required, but I invite you to try it out for yourself!

Q: What if I don’t have the physical ability or strength to perform the kriya?

A: There is no wrong way to internalize the movement. Kundalini Yoga is about finding the right movement for you to connect with you. It's all about discovering our own internal guidance. Often in life we look to what others are achieving to determine that bar of success.  Through the practice of Kundalini Yoga the instruction is given, but it is up to you to find your personal comfort line within the movement, a breath truly honoring the guidance within that leads with, “give it a little more,  you got this.” or “That’s enough for today.” Once we develop trust that “we have our best interest at heart for “me” through this daily practice of meeting our comforts edge, we are able to experience that same inner guidance throughout our daily actions in life and truly break the cycle of seeking answers/results from others.
